Fall River -
A 17-year-old B.M.C. Durfee High School student was arrested this week for allegedly molesting another student at the school on previous occasions, police said.
Tyler Surgens of 37 Forest St. is charged with assault and battery and three counts of indecent assault and battery on a person age 14 or older.
Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Bernier said that on Thursday, Senior Vice Principal Matt Desmarais informed School Resource Officers Maria Kennedy and Michael Fogarty of the alleged incidents.
Surgens subsequently was arrested.
Bernier said the alleged assaults occurred prior to Thursday.
Superintendent of Schools Nicholas Fischer said Surgens will be disciplined in accordance with the School Department code of conduct.
"We're following all protocols for the appropriate discipline," he said.
He said the same measures will be in place to avoid such incidents in the future.
"We would do the same as in the past, obviously to monitor closely the behavior of students ... act immediately," he said.
"We're extremely concerned when an incident like this happens ... We did act quickly and appropriately," he said.
Because of confidentiality laws, Bernier and Fischer said they could not release any other details about the case.
