PLAINVILLE - A tractor-trailer driver was arrested on weapons and driving charges Saturday after he struck a telephone pole on Route 1.

Robert Pummill, of North Carolina, was arrested by Plainville police after a tractor-trailer he was driving southbound on Route 1 hit a guardrail and a telephone pole before re-entering the roadway late Saturday afternoon, according to Plainville Detective James Floyd.

According to Floyd, Pummill was charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, illegal possession of a firearm, and illegal possession of ammunition. He was being held overnight on $1,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Wrentham District Court on Monday.

The accident forced the closure of two of the four traffic lanes for much of the evening, and crews were still working to repair the pole at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Floyd said.
