HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Authorities say dozens of convicted sex offenders soon will be removed from Connecticut's registry as the watch list reaches its 10-year anniversary this week.
Authorities say the names of 74 offenders will be removed from the online registry by the end of 2008 because their convictions only required them to register for 10 years.
State police say the first two names were removed Thursday.
They were among the earliest people listed on the registry, which was launched in 1998 and currently includes almost 5,100 offenders.
Officials say those given the 10-year registration timeline - rather than lifetime registration - had been deemed nonviolent, not dangerous to the community and not likely to re-offend.
