A pair of Dorchester men face charges they robbed and beat one man then moved onto another victim in Quincy. The two robberies happened within an hour of each other Saturday morning and one of the victims was badly beaten.
Police arrested and charged Corey Rabchenuk, 18, and Johnny Black, 21, at their apartment at 20 Millwood St., Dorchester, Saturday after piecing together information from the two victims. Rabchenuk, who graduated from North Quincy High School in June, and Black, pleaded innocent at their arraignment Monday and are due back in court Oct. 10.
Quincy police got a call at about 7:50 a.m. Saturday about the first robbery. A boilermaker from Rhode Island had parked his car and was walking toward his union local on Sagamore Street when he was jumped, police said.
The 21-year-old man said that two men hit him, threw him to the ground and kicked him in the face and head. The man's face was cut, swollen and bruised from the beating.
The pair took the man's cellphone and cash, got back into a car and drove away.
At 8:22 a.m., police received a call from a man who said that he had just been robbed by two men on North Central Avenue. The man told investigators that he was walking on the street when he was approached from behind by two men, who held him down, searched him and took his cell phone before getting back in a car and driving away.
Both robbery victims were able to give police identifying information about the car, which led investigators to Rabchenuk and Black.
The two are each charged with unarmed robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for the first incident and unarmed robbery for the incident on North Central Avenue, Quincy Police Capt. John Dougan said.
