Santo Domingo, Oct 2 (EFE).- Dominican authorities announced Thursday that on Sept. 18 they seized 4,250 pounds of cocaine in a boat they intercepted on the high seas in a joint operation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
The Panamanian-registered ship, which was bound for Europe, was towed to Puerto Rico where it remains along with its 10 crewmembers, the DNCD anti-narcotics agency said in a communique.
The DNCD said that the vessel remained for "several months" in the port of Santo Domingo without a cargo before setting sail for an unspecified country in South America.
"That boat was monitored since it (came) to the country, tracking that continued during its trip to South America and from there on its return to Caribbean waters," said the DNCD.
According to the report, the boat's crew included Spaniards, Nicaraguans, Ecuadorians, Indians and Costa Ricans.
"We're investigating together with Panamanian authorities the location of the owners of the vessel," the agency added.
