PHILADELPHIA -- A domestic dispute in the Hunting Park section of the city led to a wild police-involved shooting with a suspect stealing a patrol car and dragging an officer 50 feet.

It all started on the 2300 block of Hunting Park around 8a.m. Saturday.

When two officers arrived at the scene, they found a man fighting with a woman. Police said a confrontation ensued between the man and officers as they tried to break up the dispute.

Police said the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Mahlon Cobb, then jumped head-first out of a second story window down onto the street.

Police got into their car to pursue him and caught up with him in the 2300 block of Tioga Street.

A second confrontation then ensued. Cobb assaulted one officer by punching and kicking him several times. During that confrontation, police said he also tried to get the officer's gun.

Other officers attemped to subdue Cobb, but were unsuccessful.

Police said Cobb then jumped into a patrol car. Another officer tried to stop Cobb, but ended up being dragged by the police car about 50 feet. At one point, it appeared that officer would go under the vehicle; that's when police opened fire on Cobb. He was struck several times and taken to Temple University, where he is in critical but stable condition.

The officers are in good condition.

Cobb was charged with several counts related to the incident, including aggravated assault against police and his girlfriend, restraining order violations, and other related charges.
