I am looking for input from people on what type of dispatch classes/courses they would like to see taught in the state.

Not the 40 hour courses for EMD or basic dispatch. I am looking at ideas for 1-2 day inservice type classes/course. Please email me your thoughts and ideas. Any and all suggestions are welcome from Dispatchers, Call takers and any LE and FF people.

Free classes

Mike,

You are right about MEMA courses but most deal with EMA not public safety communications. and SETB is working on the free academy but it will take time for them to get instructors and the acedmy lined up.

What I am looking for is dispatch specific in-services course. Free would be nice and the MCOA is working on it for down the road.

In the mean time I am looking for ideas for classes that cost $.

Classes on HAZ-MAT, Terriosim would be great. I have thought about a HAZ-MAT class myself. I really would not know what to do if I got a call relating to a hazardous meterial spill call. :2c:

Check the LEAPS NEWS/SEMINARS file - I believe I remember seeing Natick PD hosting a HAZMAT dispatch class in the next couple of months. I am trying to convince the boss that I should go...

I would like to see Hazmat, Bomb Threats, S.T.A.R.S for dispatch...probably more of a town specific item...but we all have schools in our towns and cities, legal issues and liabilities for the dispatcher would be nice. hmm...I think that is all I can think of for now. :^)
