Position Status: Job Opening
Job Title: Director of Public Safety – Chief of Police
Location: University Police

Starting Salary: $66,000 - $115,000
Anticipated hiring range $85,000 - $115,000
NON-UNIT POSITION Group A

Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of the following: current laws of arrest, laws of evidence, criminal procedures, and terms relating to police work, all policies practices and procedures followed by the UMass Lowell campus relating to public safety, statutes, ordinances, by-laws, and rules and regulations which relate to or affect police and security operations at the University, as well as courtroom procedure and testimony. Ability to effectively plan, coordinate and supervise the activities of police personnel consistent with the needs and mission of the University. Ability to deal effectively with other law enforcement agencies and the general public in a manner that reflects positively on the University of Massachusetts Lowell and its mission as a public institution of higher education. Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, management, and communication skills. Freedom from background deterrents in acquiring federal security clearance. Minimum of seven (7) years in law enforcement work, five (5) of which should have been at a supervisory level. Minimum BA/BS degree in Criminal Justice or related area. Masters degree preferred. Demonstrates sensitivity to diversity issues. Compliance with all the requirements for the peace officer as set forth in the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Demonstrate appreciation for the role of the police in a University setting and appreciation for the unique opportunities presented to the Police Dept. when working in service to faculty, staff and especially students as state in the LACLEA mission statement.
