BRANFORD, Conn. -- A police detective was injured in a crash involving a Branford teen Friday, police said.Branford police said the head of the department's detective division, Detective Lt. William Carroll, was injured when his unmarked cruiser was struck by a student exiting the parking lot of Branford High School.Carroll was driving westbound on East Main Street at about 2:40 p.m., when police said a car driven by William Barron, 17, exited the parking lot and struck the cruiser.The crash caused Carroll's cruiser to be pushed to the right side of the roadway, where it struck a utility pole.
The pole was fractured, and the cruiser suffered heavy damage.Carroll was transported to an area medical facility with minor injuries.Barron was charged with failure to obey an overhead control signal.
