INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. -- Authorities said a man who shot and injured a Union County sheriff's deputy shot himself after a four-hour standoff in Indian Trail. The Charlotte Observer reported that deputies responded to a domestic dispute around 5 a.m. Thursday. They found a man holding a woman at gunpoint outside the home. Authorities said the man fired at deputies and hit Cpl. Todd Brasell in the upper right shoulder. Brasell was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with injuries that were not life-threatning.
Officers said deputies entered the house just after 9 a.m. and found the suspect on the floor with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He also was taken to the hospital, but his condition has not been released. Indian Trail is southeast of Charlotte.
