SALT LAKE CITY -- A Wasatch County sheriff's deputy collapsed and died after stopping a speeding motorist and asking for her driver's license and registration.
The 48-year-old deputy stopped the woman along U.S. Highway 189 in Provo Canyon early Thursday.
Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden says the deputy couldn't be revived after the motorist dialed for medical help.
Roden says the deputy, who was a retired UHP trooper, had no known medical condition that could explain his sudden death.
His body was taken by a medical examiner for an autopsy.
Roden says the motorist won't be ticketed for speeding.
