DENVER (MyFOXColorado.com) - Police were looking for a suspect Thursday who shot and killed a man in his own backyard. Sources told FOX 31 News the victim was a deputy district attorney from Adams County.

It happened Wednesday night at 3333 West 36th Avenue in the Highlands neighborhood of Denver. That's near Irving Street. Denver Police say the victim was pronounced dead at St. Anthony's Central Hospital at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. The shooting happened just after 6:00 p.m.

The suspect remained on the run Thursday morning. He is described as a White or Hispanic male in his early to late 20's. He is 5'11" - 6' tall with a medium build. The shooting suspect has dark medium legth hair and a dark colored mustache and goatee. He was last seen wearing a black baseball-style cap worn backwards, a white short-sleeved t-shirt, khaki colored knee length cargo shorts and tennis shoes.

The suspect was last seen running from the scene on foot in a northbound direction.

There was a report that the victim's pregnant wife was also taken to a hospital. Her condition was unknown.
