Started with Model 67 S&W (1983) then M-13 for brief period. TODAY I would carry a Ruger GP100 or Smith 686 on duty if I could. I LOVE a wheel gun! Wheel gun=real gun! LOL!
Had Sigma and M&P, but currently carry P226 in 9mm on-duty.
I love it. the Gen5 fits my hand perfectly. I never much cared for the finger grooves of the earlier models. They didn't bother me, per say, but I prefer the finger-less grip. The texture is just as aggressive, and I feel like the overall ergonomics of the Gen5 make it so it's just as good, if not a step forward, in terms of grip. Another thing I like about the Gen5 19 is that it comes stock with the smooth face trigger. I've always HATED the ridged/serrated triggers Glock put on their compact and subcompact guns, so I had to order and drop in a smooth face G17 trigger when I got my Gen4 19. True, it's an easy, cheap fix, but I like that the Gen5 19 comes that way without me having to buy an extra part.
All that said, this is my personal feeling about the Gen5. A lot of guys like the finger grooves and the serrated trigger on the earlier models and, you know, different strokes for different folks. Both generations are equally good quality, so I don't think you'd be doing yourself a disservice by sticking with your Gen4.
