Assistant Director of Public Safety University of Massachusetts Medical School
The University of Massachusetts Medical School has a career opportunity for an Assistant Director of Public Safety. Under the direction of the Director of Public Safety, this position is responsible for the day to day management of the Police Department including criminal and security investigations. This position will interface with all levels within the University and hospital including students, researchers, physicians, staff, patients and visitors. Prepare staffing and security plans for campus and hospital events and acts as the liaison between the Police Department, University and Hospital senior leadership.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field and graduation from an accredited full time police academy. Must hold or be eligible to receive a valid license to carry firearms in Massachusetts and receive federal security clearance as required. Demonstrated success in leadership positions within a police department, with at least five (5) years of supervisory experience at a command level. Knowledge of emergency management preparation and incident command systems, criminal investigation and community policing required. Knowledge of mandatory crime reporting laws/regulations and laws pertaining to juveniles and university students. Administrative experience in planning, budget preparation and forecasts and working knowledge of computer technology, including MS office software.
Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree and law enforcement experience within a clinical or higher education environment along with knowledge of JCAHO safety/security standards.
