DENVER, Colo. --
A Denver police officer was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Tuesday morning.
Denver Police dispatch received a call of an officer involved crash on Federal Boulevard at 6th Avenue at 4:50 a.m.
The officer was transported to Denver Health Medical Center by ambulance with serious, but stable, injuries. He has several broken bones, according to police.
Federal is closed on both sides of 6th Avenue while investigation continues. The on ramps to 6th Avenue in both directions are closed as well.
The police motorcycle landed on its side a short distance from a car with damage to its left front.
"The officer was driving northbound in the 500 block of Federal when a vehicle traveling southbound attempted to make a left turn onto 6th Avenue and apparently didn't see him," said Detective Sharon Hahn.
The driver of the car told police that they did not see the motorcycle behind a car traveling northbound and initiated the turn when the car in front of the motorcycle passed, striking the motorcycle.
It appeared the motorcycle struck light pole after it was hit by the car.
The officer was apparently on his way into work when the crash happened. He has not been identified, but Hahn said he has been with the department for more than 20 years.
The driver of the sedan was not injured and remained at the scene after the accident.
