The Quaker Hill, CT woman critically injured after a motorcycle accident Sunday night is an officer on the New London Police motorcycle patrol. On Monday, Patricia Tidd, 38, of 294 Bloomingdale Road, was listed in critical condition at The William W. Backus Hospital.
Tidd was the first female to graduate from the Connecticut State Police motorcycle training course this past July. She completed more than 120 hours of training during the course and joined New London Police Department's motorcycle patrol this summer.
New London Police Chief Bruce Rinehart said Tidd wasn't working on Sunday. He wasn't sure about the other details of the State Police investigation.
”She's been an outstanding officer,” Rinehart said. “We hope that she is going to recover and be fine. Our heart goes out to her and her family.”
Around 6 p.m. Sunday, Tidd lost control of her 2007 Harley Davidson FLSTN after striking the back of another motorcycle on I-395 south in Norwich. She was thrown from the bike and hit a curb on the right shoulder. The bike came to rest in the right lane.
Police say she was not wearing a helmet.
The second motorcycle driver was not hurt.
