The Alexandria, VA Police Department's Crime Analysis Unit is hiring a Program Analyst (Crime Analyst) to perform tactical and strategic crime analysis. The starting salary range is $45,997 - $59,892 and this position is open until July 18th, 2005.

The duties for this position include:
Collects, collates, analyzes, disseminates and evaluates crime data to discover developing patterns, trends, and changes in criminal activity in Alexandria City. Utilizes various databases and software to analyze and interpret crime data related to crime series, patterns and suspect profiles. Utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to produce computer-generated maps displaying crime activity throughout Alexandria City. Creates reports on criminal activity, changing crime trends and patterns. Presents analysis to command staff and detectives in order to deploy officers to specific areas of the City experiencing crime series or elevated crime levels. Performs data analysis using crime, calls for service, demographic and housing data for deployment purposes. Generates various reports, bulletins and maps identifying criminal activity, suspect information and crime trends and prevention methods. Conducts training courses on crime analysis to citizens groups and police officers. Attends conferences and meetings to stay abreast of the latest technology and crime analysis processes. Demonstrates the ability to work independently, must possess logical thought processes, persistence, and a willingness to make sound judgment calls based on limited information; applies creative solutions to problems and issues.

Minimum Qualifications:
A four-year degree from an accredited college. Three years experience in program evaluation, program analysis, or policy development in a setting comparable to the program area to be served (law enforcement), and completion of college-level courses in public administration, criminal justice, geographic information systems, statistics, or a field related to the program being served.

Preferred Qualification:
Master's Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Psychology or other Social Science related discipline with two years work experience as a crime or intelligence analyst. Knowledge of Bair Software's ATAC and i2's Analyst Notebook are also recommended, but not mandatory.
