ANDOVER, Mass. -- Rescue crews saved a man caught in the Merrimack River Tuesday night.
Alvin Coulter went fishing in the river when his boat started taking on water, according to police.
Neighbors heard the victim's cries for help and called 911.
An off-duty state trooper used his boat to bring officers and EMT's to the victim.
Police said the rescue was a difficult one.
"It took quite a while between no lights and cover of darkness. Basically they had to find him from hearing his screaming for help," said an officer.
Officers said the victim suffered a leg injury.
