PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Craigslist has promised to crack down on prostitution ads posted on its Web sites under an agreement reached with Rhode Island's attorney general and 39 others.
Under the deal, anyone who posts an "erotic services" ad will be required to provide a working phone number and pay a fee with a valid credit card. The Web site will provide that information to law enforcement if subpoenaed.
Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster says the deal will allow legitimate escort services to continue advertising, while discouraging companies that are conducting illegal business. Police across the country have been arresting people for using Web sites like Craigslist to advertise the sexual services of women and children.
Attorney General Patrick Lynch says the agreement helps keep children and teenagers safe from enticement.

Pat Lynch is a moron. RI is one of the few states in which prostitution is legal. Go back to not issuing concealed carry permits. Also the prostitutes will switch other mediums to get clients besides craigslist.
