THE POSITION
Performs general police work in the prevention of crime and the enforcement of law and order; performs traffic enforcement
and control; and carries out special assignments in specialized phases of police and emergency work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Patrols the City by car or foot. Responds to calls for the protection of life and property. Conducts initial and follow-up
investigations. Enforces, controls and directs traffic when
appropriate. Stops drivers who are operating vehicles
in violation of the law. Answers complaints on such problems as civil disturbances, obnoxious animals, health code and local ordinance violations. Investigates suspicious circumstances.
Takes custody of lost and found property. Takes crime prevention measures and assists in controlling problems of juvenile delinquency. Books prisoners in the City jail and assists
in their custody, care, and welfare. Furnishes information and directions to the public. Submits complete written reports.
Operates a police unit, two-way radio, recorders, firearms and equipment common to law enforcement. Performs the functions of a detective in an investigation unit.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Academy Graduate:
Applicants must be an Academy Graduate or in the final phase of an accredited P.O.S.T. Academy at time of application.

Successful completion of the academy and possession of an Academy P.O.S.T. Certificate is required prior to employment.

Valid California Class C Driver's License with a safe driving record

First Aid certificate

C.P.R. certificate

Chemical Agent Certificate

Lateral Entry:
Possession of California Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate

Employment as a sworn full-time peace officer with a California law enforcement agency within two (2) years from the date
of offer of employment; or possess a Basic Course Waiver; or have completed the P.O.S.T. re-qualification course.

Valid California Class C Driver's License with a safe driving record

SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary range for the Police Officer position is $46,481 - $62,289 per year. Appointments can be made within the range,
depending on qualifications. The City also offers an excellent fringe

benefits package including:
Cafeteria benefit plan with health, life, dental and vision coverage, and supplemental life options ($630/mo)

Fully-paid employee PERS contribution
(3% @ 50 formula)

Annual leave: 18 days/year

Paid holidays: 13 days/year (including 2
floating holidays)

Educational Incentive Pay

Tuition reimbursement: up to $1,000/year Optional deferred compensation (457 Plan)

Annual uniform allowance

SELECTION PROCEDURES
Applications will be accepted on an open continuous basis. Examinations for placement on an eligibility list will be
conducted on a periodic basis. All appointments are subject to the successful completion of a pre-employment physical
including drug screen, a psychological examination, a thorough background investigation, a computerized voice stress analyzer (CVSA), and verification of legal right to work in the United States.
