BRIDGEWATER -
An alleged robber who has been targeting local businesses was caught in his own trap by a quick-thinking store employee Wednesday night, police said.
After hearing suspicious noises outside, the employee saw a man trying to break into a trailer at a neighboring business, said police Lt. Christopher Delmonte.
But the witness reportedly didn't call police right away to A. American Remodeling Co., 85 Plymouth St.
"The witness actually trapped the guy in the trailer," Delmonte said, saying the employee slammed the trailer door shut and locked in the alleged thief.
Police arrested Rodrick Murray, 27, of 28 School St., Bridgewater, at 10:30 p.m. and charged him with breaking and entering at night, larceny from a building, attempt to commit a crime, and malicious damage under $250.
Murray is believed to be behind up to a dozen business break-ins in Bridgewater over the past two months, Delmonte said.
Police expect to issue more charges against him.
Officers searched his home with a warrant Thursday, Delmonte said, and found tires, tire rims and power tools.
Other stolen items were recovered from a pawn shop, he said.
Officers Robert Bailey, Steven Kingsley, Dennis McLean, Matthew Lynch and Joseph DeMoura led the investigation.
