Cops coax end to standoff with veteran
By Kevin Rothstein

Saturday, January 31, 2004A seven-hour standoff between a heavily armed former Army Ranger and police ended peacefully early yesterday when state police negotiators talked the Vietnam veteran out of his Swansea home.

What started as a fight between husband and wife took the potentially deadly turn at 7:30 p.m., when Donna Dunn made a frantic phone call to Swansea police from inside a bedroom, where she had locked herself and her two children to get away from 53-year-old Joseph Dunn.

``She told Swansea police her husband was in the process of loading a rifle'' and threatening to shoot police if they came, said police Chief George Arruda.

Police were able to talk the teenage daughters and Donna Dunn into escaping through a bedroom window.

After a contingent of Swansea police, state police negotiators and the state police Special Tactics and Operations Team persuaded Dunn to finally leave, an arsenal of rifles, shotguns and handguns were found inside the house, Arruda said.

A Fall River district court judge set bail at $5,000 cash at Dunn's arraignment yesterday on charges of domestic assault and threats to commit a crime.[/b]

No, the turtles were there, just holding the perimeter until the negotiator could talk him down...good job. It goes to show that ninja turtles are only one aspect of the SP Tac Ops package along with K-9s, Air Wing, SERT and many other things we offier cities and towns for the price of already paid taxes.
