Boston police yesterday asked for the public's help in locating a missing 15-year-old Dorchester girl last seen 10 days ago who has attempted to run away from home in the past.
Police are investigating whether Nerissa "Nikki" Oliphant has run away again, but they have been unable to determine that.
Oliphant was last seen July 5 wearing a white tank top, light blue jeans and white earrings. She is a 5-foot-5, 110-pound black girl with brown eyes who goes by the nicknames "Peaches" and "NewNew," police said.
"She has attempted to run away from home before," BPD spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll said. "Her mother is very concerned, because she's now been away for over a week."
Alison Goodwin, spokeswoman for the Department of Children and Families, formerly the Department of Social Services, said the agency has received five 51A allegations of neglect or abuse involving the family, but only one was substantiated, triggering an open case file from June to November 2002.
The department is no longer involved with the family.
Anyone who has seen Oliphant or has information about her whereabouts should contact police by calling 911 or directly contacting District C-11 detectives by calling (617) 343-4335.
