SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Hartford police will enforce a curfew in response to recent violence, including a weekend shooting that left one person dead and six young people wounded.
Gunfire erupted after the city's annual West Indian Day parade on Saturday. Twenty-one-year-old Ezekiel Roberts of Hartford was killed, a 7-year-old boy was shot in the head, and 15-month-old was shot in the left leg.
Starting Thursday police will detain anyone under 18 years old that is out after 9 p.m. That curfew will be in effect for 30 days.
22News asked Springfield residents if they thought a similar measure could deter crime in the city. "I think it's good. It'd keep them out of trouble and the parents would know they're in a safe place and everything" said Jacqueline Serrano of Springfield.
"There are people above 18, around 21 to 24 years of age, that are also causing mischief, getting drunk and causing accidents and such. So yeah, the under 18 curfew would be helpful, but they're not the only ones" said Jason Witkop of Springfield.
"I really don't think you can enforce a curfew. You can to some extent, but the ones who want to commit crimes are going to commit them whether or not there's a curfew" said Susan Crocker of Wilbraham.
Police are still looking for suspects in the Hartford shooting. No arrests have been made yet.

Instead of blaming everything on gun laws, now they are blaming it on kids being out late? Why don't all these people think about why their kids really turned out to be fuck ups? If they took a good look in the mirror while they're at it, they might figure it out a bit sooner. Instead they believe the government should do the parenting... better get on the phone with DSS.
