1. Responsible for the operation, trouble-shooting, and maintenance of the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS).
2. Responsible for the monitoring and fault isolation of all hardware and software systems to ensure the integrity and security of all the systems that make up the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS).
3. Responsible to ensure that all policy & procedures are followed in the trouble-shooting, trouble reporting, and escalation procedures as they relate to 24 x 7 continuous operations. Responsible to develop procedures and documentation where needed.
4. Participates in cost decisions relevant to billable service on services and or equipment at both central site as well as remote locations.
5. Participates in the coordination of agency technical staff, vendors, consultants, and end users as it applies to problem resolution.
6. Recognizes database errors due to malfunction and performs database recovery based on consultation and procedures.
7. Operates data communications test equipment to isolate errors and malfunctions and report same to repair group(s).
8. Monitors system performance through observation of console and peripheral equipment for verification messages, error messages, machine stoppage or other error conditions to determine point of equipment, communication, and/or software failure.
9. Makes corrective actions according to oral or predetermined instructions that correct errors or failures and aids in resuming proper operating recovery procedures.
10. Confers with supervisor and technical personnel regarding changes of instructions and/or procedures relating to machine stoppage, database, application, or network issues.
11. Assists CJIS users with their data entry when Quality Control Unit is not on duty.
12. Submit written shift log reports.
13. Assist in the training of other operators through observations and informal instruction to aid such operators in gaining proficiency in all systems, policies, and procedures.
14. Process jobs for computer batch processing, view output, and store and issue data files required for jobs to assist with data control and tape librarian work as required.
15. Performs command and edit routines (SYSTEM/CANDE) to run jobs, backup disks file to tape, update files and interrogate MCS programs.
16. Works without direct supervision on weekends and state holidays.
17. Monitors and tests the LoJack vehicle recovery computer and radio system.
18. Operates MS-DOS and windows based personal computers for purposes of logging, entry of reports, monitoring and control of online systems.
19. Responsible for the review and decisions of reject or accept incoming and outgoing police administrative messages via the state or national networks.
20. Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in electronic data processing work, the major duties of which included the operation of the console of a computer and/or the peripheral devices used in support of computer operations, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.


I. An Associate's degree or higher with a major in the field of data processing may be substituted for the required experience.*

II. A diploma for completion of a one year full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized non-degree granting business or vocational/ technical school above the high school level with a major in the field of data processing may be substituted for the required experience.*

III. An official transcript from a recognized business or technical/ vocational school as evidence of completion of at least 9 semester hours of instruction (or the equivalent in classroom and/or laboratory hours) in computer programming/ operation may be substituted for the required experience.

IV. Graduation from the data processing course of a recognized vocational/technical high school may be substituted for the required experience.

*Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of data processing fundamentals, and architecture; data management operations, and standards control procedures.
2. Knowledge of the methods and techniques of operating large scale electronic computer and related peripheral equipment.
3. Knowledge of data communication operations.
4. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
5. Skills in writing.
6. Ability to converse intelligently over the telephone.
7. Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
8. Ability to operate data processing equipment.
9. Ability to maintain harmonious working equipment.

Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement.

Shift is subject to change due to the fact that this position operates within a unit that is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
