Sworn Employment
The Department accepts applications for employment as a police officer continuously. For the most recent information on available examination dates and hiring, please see our Employment News page.

Applicants will be required to follow these steps to register for an examination and be considered for employment:

Step One: Read the Minimum Qualifications for the two police officer positions that are open. If you meet the minimum qualifications for one of the open police officer positions, go to the Applicant Registration Center.

Step Two: Complete the Test Registration Form on line at the Applicant Registration Center.

Step Three: After completing the Test Registration Form, submit a Colorado Springs Police Department Employment Application. Based on our minimum qualifications, please select the Police Recruit application or the Lateral Entry application. You must meet all minimum qualifications for the position you are applying for at the time of your application submittal.

All applicants are required to submit a Colorado Springs Police Department Employment Application. Updates to previously submitted employment applications will not be accepted. An Employment Application is available to applicants after they complete the test registration form.

We are not able to receive completed employment applications electronically. Completed applications must be dropped off at the Police Operations Center at 705 South Nevada Avenue or mailed to:

Step Four: Submit an official transcript or transcripts documenting that you have completed 60 or more semester hours from an accredited university or college. We prefer that transcripts be submitted with the Employment Application. You may check to see if their education has been verified on the Applicant Registration Center.

Applicants that have not tested with the Department previously are encouraged to request official transcripts immediately from their schools so that they will have them on hand when they register to test. Applicants will not be allowed to select a test date until we receive official transcripts and verify them.

Previous applicants that tested after March 1, 2002 may not have to resubmit official transcripts. Please call Ms. Pat Blakeley at (719) 444-7447 if you tested with the Department after March 1, 2002 to confirm that we have your transcripts on file and that you meet our educational requirements.

Step Five: Return to the Application Registration Center, log in, and click on the "Application Status" button to check the status of your application. When the Application Complete box contains a "True" entry, you will be able to select a test date. Once we receive all required documents, it takes about 72 hours for us to process your complete application.

Step Six: Select an available test date and time. Additional test dates will be posted periodically.

Step Seven: Notify us in advance if you are unable to take the test on the date that you selected. If you do not notify us at least 24 hours in advance to cancel an appointment, we may not reschedule you to test at a later date. Please note that you cannot reschedule yourself for another test date after selecting a test date. You must contact us to be rescheduled.
