I'm looking at going back to college....I have decided on where I am going. However at the same time I'm also buying a condo and getting my finances in order. Does anyone know where I can find scholarships and/or grants for criminal justice majors. I just got on a job full time and need my degree (quinn bill). I will only be going back part time at night. My job does not reimburse for any school fees....Any help will be appreciated..

Well, you could always go the community college route with student loans and just work your way into a scholarship. I went to Massasoit as a full-time student while also working full-time and earned a full academic scholarship to UMass Boston.

I know one guy who used this to go to Middlesex CC years ago: http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/73-20.htm

I haven't seen it used here in Mass yet but you could also look into this: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/opclee/about.html

Make sure you ask at your schools financial aid office and at your local community scholarship organization. I work with a LT who got some money (I think a small Pell grant) through the local organization at the high school.

Pell grant info: http://studentaid.ed.gov/students/publications/student_guide/2004_2005/english/types.htm

You can also get Stafford loans and pay them after you are finished and get your Quinn Bill raise: http://www.staffordloan.com/

Also remember to do lot's of reading on your tax laws or hire an accountant to figure out how to save on your taxes. I have generally used a mixture of Lifetime Learning Credit and tax deductions on tuition to save quite a bit. The fact that you have the Quinn Bill should give you the ability to deduct job related tuition and some other expenses.

Good luck. It took me 12 years of chipping away at it to get my Bachelors.

When looking at schools, check to make sure that they are on the Current Quinn Bill approved list. It would suck to start taking classes, pay out money and find out it wasn't Quinn approved.
