Ok I think I already blew the time limit on my GI Bill, end of active duty was 1990 but my date of discharge with reserve time etc.. was 1996 anyone know when the 10 year count down starts?

Secondly, if I did already pass the time limit don't vets get discounted education at state colleges and universities?

To the best of my knowledge the 10 year count down starts when you sign your notice of eligibility. This is the form you get from the VA to start your payments. You can also check the VA website for GI bill information. It gives you a number which gives you up to date automated information about you GI bill including you expiration date.

As far as I know, their is no extension on the GI bill unless you were activated during the reserves. The time you were activated will give you an extension for that amount of time. I am in the same boat. I graduate in May for my associates; however, my GI bill ends in May. I will miss those checks because I start for my BS in the fall. I should have got started on school when I got out of active duty. :(

Gil,

One area is Mass HRD (veterans Pref)
I believe that unless you have Vietnam Era (ends April 10 1975)
Grenada/Panama/Beirut, or Desert Storm Open period, You are NOT a vet for state schools tuition waiver.

A back door into education is V.A./G.I. Bill/Voc Rehab.
