CLINTON, Conn. (AP) - Clinton's unionized officers are donating their sick time to make sure that 1 of their own will have enough medical leave for treatment of throat cancer.
Clinton's selectmen have approved the plan allowing officers to give up their sick time for officer Glenn Smith.
First Selectman William Fritz says the creation of a "sick time bank," from which Smith could draw medical leave, was proposed by the officers themselves. He says Smith has only 10-12 days of sick time left and faces radiation and chemotherapy treatments that are expected to keep him out of work until March.
The number of donated sick days is capped at 50. Fritz says if the sick leave is used up, the town and union will discuss an extension.
