Maybe its just a sell job to try and get non-assbags to apply, kinda like when MassArt's job description reads like a real cop job (even down to "the ability to carry a firearm."

Many depts are now requesting that you already have a Class A.. for a series of reasons... 1. It shows that you have had an initial background check done and you were deemed by the check of police to carry a weapon... 2. it is an initial screening process for two piles... one keep the other trash.... sometimes depts don't want to bother going through every application and running checks..

The other reason that departments do that is so that if the department was ever armed in the future, they wouldn't have to fire officers already on staff, not to mention the fact that it shows the college that all the officers are already authorized to carry firearms as private citizens.

DC hit the nail right on the head. I used to work at a department that had a kid employed there that had an ABPO charge on his record. If the department ever went armed it would have been a nightmare for management to handle that issue.

Having a class A today does nothing for you in the future. There are various reasons why you may be denied at any time in the future.

I would assert it's a good prescreen but does nothing for the employee moving forward.

Certain Officer's shouldnt speak about things they have no idea about, especially an officer who worked for our department who shot himself in the foot. Now thats how you handle a gun - hey Bart!!!

No he left there in the beginning of 2003. Then they hired some jackass Capt over at the MDC, who used to come into work at the college in his MDC uniform and run the college security while getting paid by the state. Can you say double dipping? I hear that was common over at the MDC. Anyways, Fisher finally got rid of that a--hole and I hear they just hired someone new.
