This market near Park and Pine streets in Attleboro was robbed Saturday night.
ATTLEBORO - A small market on Park Street doors down from City Hall and Pine Street was robbed Saturday night, with a man brandishing a handgun.
USA Food Market, a Spanish market at 101 Park St., was robbed at about 8:30 p.m., police said.
A man entered the store asking for "Black and Mild" cigars, and when asked for identification, left the store, Detective James Cote said.
However, the man returned with a revolver and demanded money. He pushed one of two female clerks before escaping with an undetermined amount of cash, Cote said. It is believed two male accomplices were outside the store, he added.
There were no customers in the store at the time of the robbery, Cote said.
The three men took off in a small dark-colored car which had been parked on nearby Howard Avenue, Cote said. The driver was described as a white woman with her hair tied in a ponytail. The car was then observed on Gardner Street, which is off Pine Street.
The armed suspect is described by police as an Hispanic or light-skinned black man about 6-feet tall, with brown eyes and wearing a gray sweatshirt with red stripes on both arms and around the border of the hood.
Investigating the incident along with Cote are Patrolmen Stephen Graney, Neil Bailey and William Monterroso.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information about the suspects or vehicle is urged to call the Attleboro Police Detectives Division at 508-222-1259.
