NEW BEDFORD - A city man charged with drug distribution and firearms offenses is scheduled for a dangerousness hearing today in New Bedford District Court.
It will be the 150th illegal firearm-related dangerousness hearing argued by the Bristol County District Attorney's Office since C. Samuel Sutter became district attorney last year.
Vasco Lisboa, 35, was arrested Monday in his apartment at 335 Pleasant St. after police executed a search warrant.
Inside the apartment, police said they found 267 grams of marijuana, OxyCodone and Valium pills, $400 in cash and a high-capacity Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun loaded with a 17-round magazine.
Arraigned Tuesday, Mr. Lisboa has been held without bail pending his dangerousness hearing. He is charged with a slew of drug and firearm offenses that include use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
According to city police, Mr. Lisboa has a lengthy criminal record that includes 55 prior arrests for narcotics, motor vehicle violations, breaking and entering, and gun possession.
Mr. Lisboa has two prior convictions for unlawful possession of a firearm, police said.
Today's dangerousness hearing will be argued by Assistant District Attorney Robert DiGiantomaso, whom the DA's office hired last year using Shannon Grant funds. A judge will determine whether the defendant can continue to be held without bail because he represents a threat to the community.
