We think things are bad around here, but thankfully nobody is seeing budget cuts like this. Sure, CHP is probably as big as all departments in MA combined, but anytime 800+ people are losing their jobs, it is not good.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) announced it will give lay-off warning notices to 469 officers and 370 non-uniformed personnel, including dispatchers, all in order to meet a meet a 7% budget cutback proposed by the governor to trim a budget deficit. The news was met with criticism from several quarters, including the families of 138 cadets who just graduated from the academy, and who presumably would be the first officers laid off. Not word on how many dispatchers are among the group of 370 non-uniformed personnel. It will be several months before actual lay-offs are made.
