Chicago police shot and killed a teenager Tuesday afternoon on the South Side, authorities said.
The shooting occurred in the Englewood neighborhood about 3 p.m. in the 7000 block of South Bishop Street, a police spokesman said.
Officers responded to a call about gunfire in the 6800 block of South Marshfield Avenue and saw a red vehicle matching the description of one involved in the shooting, a police statement said. After they pulled the vehicle over, one of the four people inside tried to get out.
An officer "was confronted by one of the armed offenders and the officer discharged his weapon, striking one of the offenders," the statement said. Police arrested one other person, but two escaped in the vehicle. Investigators found a semiautomatic handgun at the scene, the statement said.
No officers were injured.
The teen who was killed by police was identified as Marvin Williams, 17, of the 6200 block of South Oakley Avenue and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Williams was shot multiple times, the medical examiner's office said.
A spokesman for The city's Independent Police Review Authority is investigating.
Meanwhile, paramedics took one person in critical condition from the Marshfield location to Holy Cross Hospital.
