LITCHFIELD, Conn. - A Winsted man who confessed to molesting a girl while he was taking a lie detector test to be a state trooper has been sentenced to more than four years in prison.
Thirty-nine-year-old Jon Van Allen had told investigators a friend had told him that if he was honest about everything, he was most likely to pass the state police exam.
Van Allen, who was being interviewed as a possible state police recruit, admitted that he had fondled a young girl twice in 2000.
Litchfield Superior Court Judge Michael Sheldon says he found it bizarre that after Van Allen's "moment of catharsis" he still thought he could get the job.
Van Allen was working as a U.S. Marine Corps recruiter at the time of the incidents.
