A Randolph man faces charges he broke into a car early this morning and tried to steal a GPS unit.
The car's owner was working late at about 12:30 a.m. today when he heard his car alarm sounding. He told Boston police that he looked outside and saw a stranger sitting in his car with the vehicle's GPS unit in his hands.
The car owner and a co-worker ran outside 31 Stuart St., caught up to the man who was trying to run away and held onto him until police arrived.
Christopher D. Johnson, 37, of Randolph, faces charges connected to the crime. Police said they found a cobblestone in the backseat which they believe was used to break into the car.
