BARNSTABLE, Mass (AP) A man who had a few too many drinks was pulled over in an unusual traffic stop after he took a backhoe he ''found'' at a worksite for an early morning drive, police said.
Police said they spotted Donald Tattric at the wheel of a backhoe at about 2:30 a.m. Friday, driving on Barnstable Road with the backhoe's arm stretched out behind the vehicle and the bucket dragging along the road.
It took several patrol cars and a quarter of a mile to get Tattric to pull over, said Barnstable police Sgt. Sean Sweeney.
Tattric, who was helped out of the cab of the backhoe, said he was on his way to Dennis. Asked where he got the machine, Tattric told police he had ''found it down the street.''
Tattric, 38, of Dennis pleaded innocent to operating under the influence of alcohol and larceny of a motor vehicle in Barnstable District Court on Friday.
The backhoe, which belongs to a construction company working on a repaving project, was returned to its storage place.
