TOPSFIELD - A man paddling down the Ipswich River in a canoe was arrested by police yesterday on numerous felony warrants.
Tospfield and state police made the arrest shortly before 3 p.m. after police said Scott D. Young docked the canoe he had been on with a loaded 9mm pistol.
Young, 49, of Stoneham, was arrested on numerous warrants out of Boston, Malden and the state of Maine. Police said Young is wanted for charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime and two counts of larceny more than $250.
In Penobscot County, Maine, Young is wanted for aggravated forgery and cultivating marijuana.
Topsfield police Chief Evan Haglund said the department received information that Young would be canoeing on the river in Topsfield, where he was to meet with another individual.
Police responded along the river and took Young into custody as he got out of his canoe on the river bank, Haglund said.
In addition to the warrants, police arrested Young for being a fugitive from justice and illegal possession of a firearm.
He was held without bail, and he will be arraigned today at Ipswich District Court in Newburyport
