Duties:
Provide direct supervision of subordinate officers by providing training, issuing assignments, conducting performance reviews, and general administrative tasks. Maintain public safety by enforcing motor vehicle operation and parking regulations/issuing citations, directing traffic, assisting stranded motorist, assist with snow removal, and all additional duties required for maintaining public safety on the roadways within the jurisdiction of the Department of Mental Health, and all other duties in support of the Campus Police Chief.
Qualifications:
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in a governmental police force or in law enforcement work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. An Associate's degree with a major in police science, law enforcement or criminal justice may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*
II. A Bachelor's degree or higher, with a major in criminal justice, police science or law enforcement may be substituted for the required experience.*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Appointee must be eligible for appointment as a special police officer under Chapter 147 of the Massachusetts General Laws.
Preferred Qualifications:
Special State Police License, basic computer skills.
Comments:
This is a civil service position. If there is no civil service list for this title, employees appointed must take and pass the next Civil Service examination when administered.
Position #00004902 is full-time, 40 hours per week, 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. Days off are Saturday and Sunday. This position is assigned to the Westborough State Hospital campus.
