Duties:
Sunday-Thursday 3:45PM-12:15AM Friday and Saturday Off

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides services to safeguard personnel. Ensures security of facility and grounds. Provides back up security to all DMH departments within facility.
Conduct regular patrol of building and grounds. Maintains security records and performs related work as required.
DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs security services by conducting regular patrol of building and grounds, using Morse System checking for safety and/or security violations and hazards. Ensures that doors and widows are secured when appropriate. Ensures that lighting is adequate where appropriate. Ensures that property is secure and that security and safety systems are operative.
2. Performs security services by maintaining a log of facility egress of all personnel and visitors entering or exiting the building from the time of facility lockdown to the time of facility unlock.
3. Performs security services by conducting investigations of any adverse incidents and reporting such incidents as per protocol.
4. Monitors CCTV Surveillance System and alarm systems and responds as procedures dictate.
5. Attends training appropriate for DMH Campus Police and obtains and maintains a State Special Police License.
6. Assist in maintaing a safe and therapeutic milieu for DMH consumers by patrolling consumer areas, observing activity in consumer areas as directed by the service director / supervisor of consumers in that area and reports any observed problems that could threaten the welfare of the consumer population. Consumers and visitors are treated respectfully at all times.

Qualifications:
Minimum Entrance Requirements: None.

Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Appointee must be eligible for appointment as a special police officer under Chapter 147 of the Massachusetts General Laws.

Preferred Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE:
1. Ability to work with consumers in a respectful and humane manner.
2. Ability to deal with the public and staff with effective communication.
3. Ability to prepare and submit written and oral reports.
4. Ability to follow specific written and oral instructions.
5. Specific knowledge of procedures of building and grounds security.
6. Specific knowledge of fire fighting procedures and equipment.

LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
2. Ability to obtain a State Special Police Officer's License

Comments:
This is a civil service position. If there is no civil service list for this title, employees appointed must take and pass the next Civil Service examination when administered. As applicable, preference for this position will be given to those candidates who are eligible for Civil Service/ConTest reinstatement/reemployment or to those candidates who have passed the Civil Service examination for this job title, and who respond to the job certification that was recently issued for this location and/or to employees laid off or bumped from this title who are eligible for recall, and in accordance with Article 14 or applicable Collective Bargaining requirements.
