SHREWSBURY (WBZ) ― A bus driver was fired after he dropped off a fourth grader on Route 9 when she tried to move seats without asking.

The 9-year-old's mother, Melissa Doyle, said the bus driver got upset when her daughter tried to move closer to the front of the bus.

When he reached an apartment complex on Route 9, Doyle said the driver threw her daughter off the bus and drove away. Doyle said her daughter could not remember her home number, so she walked to a nearby ice cream shop that she knew was on Route 9.

One of the other students on the bus who saw the incident told her father what happened. They both jumped in the car and began looking for Doyle's daughter. The two finally found her and brought the little girl home.

The mother did not know the father or the student that picked her daughter up, but she told the Worcester Telegram and Gazette that her daughter accepted the ride because she recognized the girl inside the car from the bus.

Doyle said she is upset because it could have been anyone who picked her daughter up from the ice cream store.

Doyle called the school and told them what the bus driver allegedly did. A short time later, the bus driver was fired. "It is the worst possible judgment that any bus driver can make," Shrewsbury School Superintendent Anthony Bent told the paper. "It's almost beyond words, that he would drop her off there. That bus driver will never drive children in Shrewsbury again."

What a moron! To drop a 4th grader on the side of Rte. 9, which in that area is very very busy with traffic is absolute negligence and stupidity. That would be a questionable decision if it was a high school student acting up, never mind an elementary school kid.

Glad to see the school and bus company, instead of giving the usual lip service that they would "look into it" or "discuss it at the next school board meeting", acted quickly and decisively to fire the guy.

Shrewsbury police file complaint against bus driver

SHREWSBURY, Mass. -- A former school bus driver who ordered a fourth-grader off his bus nearly two miles from home as punishment for changing seats without permission is facing more trouble.
Shrewsbury police on Monday filed a reckless child endangerment complaint against 65-year-old Donald Davison Jr. of Grafton. A hearing is scheduled for Dec. 3 to determine if there is probable cause for a charge to be filed.
Davison was fired after the Nov. 5 incident.
Nine-year-old Cyrena Madbury started walking home before another parent picked her up and drove her the rest of the way.
Melissa Doyle, Cyrena's mother, tells the Worcester Telegram and Gazette she is glad police are following through with possible charges.
Davison did not return a call from the paper.
