A rowdy street fight on Brunswick Street led police to arrest two men from Newton and Lynn on gun and drug charges late Saturday night.
Police seized an illegal firearm after responding to 14 Brunswick St. at 11:50 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports of a large fight there, Lt. Paul Bonanca said.
Police had received two prior disturbance calls earlier Saturday for a large party at that address, Bonanca said. At least seven police cruisers responded.
When detectives arrived, they found a crowd of 30 to 40 people, mostly men, arguing in the street, Bonanca said. As detectives ran to separate two opposing groups of men, police observed suspicious activity in the back yard.
Officers found a revolver firearm placed inside an exposed brick wall, Bonanca said.
Police arrested Fritiani Orlando Elpenord, 22, of 139 Blue Hill Parkway, apt. 2, Newton, on three foreign warrants and charged him with unlawful possession of a firearm, receiving a firearm with a defaced serial number, resisting arrest, and giving a false name to police officers.
As police were arresting Elpenord, officers saw another man throw a packet of crack cocaine onto the ground, Bonanca said.
Police charged James Johnson, 24, of 590 Boston St., Lynn, with possession of crack cocaine.
Both Elpenord and Johnson were scheduled to be arraigned in Brockton District Court this morning.
Brunswick Street is located in Ward 2, southwest of downtown.
