Updated 9 hour(s) ago
A former city police officer - currently working
for the Brockton Police Department - was arrested
at a restaurant and bar in Newport, R.I., during the
weekend on three felony charges that allegedly
involved brandishing a .380-caliber handgun, police said.

Without even looking at that article, I have to say that Newport RI, Police have been known to arrest LE officers in the past. Could very well be that this arrest was more then warranted, however I know of at least one Massachusetts PO that was locked up over an ego issue, and a dick meassuring contest in Newport

OK, just read the article. If he did all that, he deserved what he got. I'll second SniperGAF, What a dumbass.

Booze and guns don't mix, if I plan on having drinks I leave my ccw at home period, no exceptions.
Many off-duty cops can drink and get plenty stupid WITHOUT their guns...ie ANY masscops gathering in the past.

263FPD,

Could not agree with you more. Not only do I know of fellow PO's that were either given zero professional courtesy on certain matters but huge attitudes, I being one of them. Needless to say, I do not frequent the A.B.C. on Newport Beach anymore...
One thing we can agree on by not going there...since I'm in my 40s anyway.

Man that's too bad, nice place though isn't it.

I would still go there with my family. It's a beutiful city. I wouldn't go to party there though. I'm in my 40's also and I have no need to party like that.
I used to rip that town apart when I was Active Army on the Navy base. We actually did deliberate water jumps from 1500 ft AGL, had Zodiak boats that brought us into the beach area right in front of the the ABC and got, um well, lots of "fans"...

There is no immunity and reciprocal rights law for police officers from one state to legally carry a firearm into another. They may do so if on official business with the knowledge of the town/state they are entering, which is a courtesy, but not while off duty. To carry a personal side arm while off duty they must be licensed to do so in that state. The only law enforcement personnel allowed to carry interstate without needing individual state licences are federally licensed. I.E. F.B.I. US Marshals Service, Secret Service and so forth.

Cop charged in drunken rampage faces the music

By Laura Crimaldi

A Brockton cop yesterday faced a disciplinary hearing after he
allegedly waved a personal firearm at two Newport, R.I. restaurant
employees while in a drunken stupor, officials said.
Officer Jordan J. Silvia, 29, of Fall River, was arrested at about 1:44 a.m.
on Sunday after staff at Christies Landing said he pulled out a Kel-Tech .380
caliber pistol, pointed it to the ground, loaded one bullet, waved it across the
bodies of two employees and said, "I'm not going anywhere," said Newport police Lt. William Fitzgerald.

Police officer fired for waving loaded gun

Associated Press / December 2, 2010

A police officer charged with waving a loaded gun at two employees of a Newport, R.I., restaurant while drunk has been fired. Mayor Linda Balzotti told The Enterprise newspaper that she fired Brockton Officer Jordan James Silvia last month. Police Chief William Conlon said he supports the mayor's decision. A police union official said a grievance has been filed as a matter of procedure. Silvia faces charges including felony assault in allegedly brandishing the gun Oct. 31 after employees asked Silvia's friend to stop urinating on the restaurant patio. Silvia is due back in court in Rhode Island on Dec. 9.
