A man wanted for the murder of a Miami police officer's brother earlier this year was arrested after police stopped a car on Cherry Street, authorities said.
Julian Mendez, 28, was arrested Wednesday on a fugitive from justice warrant after Miami authorities received a tip leading them to Brockton, said Lt. John Crowley, chief of detectives.
The suspect was staying at a Cherry Street home at the time, he said.
Brockton detectives, U.S. Marshals and a Miami detective staked out Cherry Street Wednesday
After Sgt. Michael Dennehy saw someone who matched Mendez's description in a motor vehicle, authorities stopped the car and arrested the suspect, Crowley said.
"He was in the back seat," Crowley said.
He said he didn't know why the suspect came to Brockton.
Others in the car with the suspect were questioned and later released.
Mendez is accused of shooting Victor Carmona, the brother of a Miami police officer, in March inside a Miami nightclub.
Authorities said Carmona was trying to break up a fight when he was shot.
