Driver Taken To Hospital

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine -- A Scarborough man is facing multiple charges after police said he led them on a brief chase.

At approximately 1:50 a.m. Saturday, the South Portland Police Department received information that a suspected drunken driver, in a black pick-up truck, had exited the Maine Turnpike and was in the area of the Maine Mall.

About 10 minutes later, an on-duty officer saw a vehicle that matched that description heading west on Gorham Road. Police said when the officer tried to pull the driver over, the driver sped off on Gorham Road toward Scarborough at a high rate of speed.

Another officer clocked the car going 82 mph as the driver passed him on Running Hill Road.

Officers lost sight of the vehicle but a short time later came upon the vehicle, which had crashed into a utility pole in the area of 114 Running Hill Rd. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Keith Bragdon, 45, of Scarborough. Bragdon was taken to Maine Medical Center with injuries that don't appear to be life-threatening.

Police said Bragdon has an extensive driving history and is facing multiple charges including operating under the influence and violation of bail conditions.

Police said the entire incident lasted about 90 seconds.
