Wannabe1

If you want to be a lazy jerk and learn next to nothing then go make 60k a year at a place like Brandies. Have a fun time taking orders from non-police admin types who will ruin your career as a Police Officer when they fire your ass for acting like a cop. The "Wannabe Trooper" statement just shows how little you know about State College Police Officers.

In my opinion 95% of all College Police Officers aspire to move on to bigger and better careers in the law enforcement field. The 95% are very hard working individuals who take pride in their current situation and look to make the best out of campus law enforcement. In any profession a few “bad apples” tend to cast a negative light on the majority. The cops that lock everyone up for a mouth full of beer and driving miles off campus looking for trouble are examples of these “bad apples”.

I feel our major difference comes from State school vs. private school campus law enforcement. As a State institution we enforce M.G.L., Chapter 90, Town By-Laws, as well as college rules and regulations. Private schools tend to be gated communities that prefer to handle any violations in-house with college sanctions. I have no problem with Private College PD’s and feel that most are very professional.

We do not sanction getting involved with off campus incidents unless requested by the local PD. Most of the Officers understand that our main function is to provide protection and public safety services for the College community.

The thing I don't understand is your fear of ruining your career while working as a Campus Cop. If you understand the laws and act in a professional manner then there is nothing to worry about. I guess for some making good $$$ and losing respect is the answer.

I believe SSPO #11 works at Fitchburg State and Lkat20 is a Dispatcher for a local PD.
