NASHUA, N.H. (AP) -- A Nashua, N.H., man is behind bars after escaping from a courthouse and jumping into the Nashua River, in shackles.
Three officers jumped into the river to fish out 43-year-old Peter Gibbs.
Investigators say Gibbs broke away from sheriff's deputies Monday at Nashua District Court. After more than an hour, a police dog tracked him to the riverbank. Gibbs jumped in and went under in the strong current.
Police say Gibbs kicked the officers who went in to rescue him and it took a bite from the dog to help subdue him.
Gibbs was supposed to be in court for a hearing on home invasion charges.
