BU main campus and Medical Campus are both hiring, but have separate police forces. Looks like the Medical Campus is looking for several officers. I hear good things about both departments, don't know many specifics though

Re: BU Medical Campus NEIDL:

The starting pay is around $16.00 hrly and the officers will not become armed until the lab is decleared a Level 4. At that time it is mandated that officers be armed at this facility. The facility is in the process of getting the authorized paperwork and permits to become a level 4 lab. This is my understanding after talking to a reliable sourse.:pinch:

Anyone know where the lab is being built? Or is it already finished?
I would say it is 90% finished. It is right across from the BUMC now, on the corner of Mass. Ave. and Melnea Cass Blvd.

If you are unfamiliar with the area - when you start seeing an inordinate amount of dirtbags in the middle of the road begging for change and wanting to "squeegee" your windows, you are there. And, if by chance you are "trynig" to kick the heroin, there is a Methadone clinic conveniently located across the street. But really, it's a great area.......

You know you're getting close when you see the moonies trying to sell you wilted flowers at the traffic light between the jail and the morgue.

From a variety of sources.....:

Local activists have protested the biolab, under construction at the BU Medical Campus in the South End, since the National Institutes of Health granted BU $128 million for the project in 2003. The site will house some of the world's deadliest pathogens, including anthrax and the Ebola virus.

This laboratory will study emerging and reemerging infectious diseases. The mission of the lab is to develop diagnostics drugs, vaccines and treatments to prevent and cure life- threatening infectious diseases.

You would have to be crazy to apply for this. Defend a lab with that kind of crap being housed wearing white shirts with "security" written on the back. No thanks.

I have heard all good things about the BUPD. Great group of guys, all trained in the full time academy, no SSPO as far as I know. Much of Comm Ave is owned by BU, so the department stays busy with calls at the businesses that rent space. The school is large, in the middle of the city, and part of it is directly in Kenmore, so there is plenty to keep them busy. Not your typical college campus position

It was posted on the BU website, that the NEIDL command and control position was armed. The regular "public safety officers" are not armed. Not sure what they really do? Access control, fixed post etc?

BUPD only takes those with the municipal academy. Pay is very good from what I hear.

Starting pay for the regular BUMC public safety officer (white shirts gray pants, soon to be blue pants. Dept has some sspos some unsworn) is 17.00 for day shift, 17.80 on evening shift, and 17.90 for evening shift, there is a 2% differential for spo's. The Neidl (BIO LAB, blue shirts and a staff of all sspo's) pay is about two dollars an hour higher than the regular public safety pay.
The biolab is located at 620 Albany Street right next to the flower exchange market. Also, FYI the morgue is no longer located on the corner by the jail, that area is a new multi million dollar health care center for the homeless. In addition some officers who originally came on the staff for the lab were academy trained but since have left for greener pastures which is the reason why there is a posting for 4 positions at the NEIDL. The job at BUMC does provide BU benefits which include tuition remission, etc. Last but not least there is a good working relationship between most of the BUMCPS and BUPD with a few exceptions.

No they do not hire part time. Unless you are a college student ie Co-ops
They are Union

How is BUMC DPS lately with all the shootings in Boston. Still getting alot of Drive up/ Drop off victims? Have to shut down the ER lately because of large angry groups?
Public safety is a great department, its now run (I believe) by a retired MSP Detective. The Bio-lab guys and gals are great too... Most of them are from BUMC DPS.
There was/is a huge riff between BUPD and BUMC DPS...It's a long story and I believe it has been posted here before. There has been alot posted on here (masscops) about BUMC aka BMC aka BCH aka Boston CIty Hospital.... I also believe someone has posted the current hring rates and step raises..
