Boston man convicted of killing cat
BOSTON -- A Boston man has been convicted of stomping a cat to death and lighting its remains on fire.
Luigi Epifania (Comman Spelling) was convicted Thursday on charges of arson and killing a domesticated animal in the June 2007 death of "Nunu," a cat that lived in Epifania's East Boston neighborhood.
After killing the animal, prosecutors said, the 25-year-old Epifania put it in a bag and doused it with lighter fluid, then tossed the burning package through the window of a nearby apartment building. The fire caused significant damage to the first floor.
Epifania faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced Monday. He also faces a separate trial on attempted murder charges for allegedly attacking an acquaintance during a botched drug sale.
His attorney, James Greenberg, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
