Boston Emergency Medical Services, a bureau of the Boston Public Health Commission, is pleased to announce the EMT Recruit examination process for current employment opportunities with Boston EMS. The Boston Public Health Commission is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

This notice is to inform you about the Boston EMS EMT Recruitment Examination Process. Please review the entire document carefully. The Recruitment Exams are scheduled for the following dates:

Written Examination
Wednesday, March 9th, 2011 at 6 PM
Practical Examination
Sunday, March 13th, 2011 at 10 AM


After successfully completing the Written and Practical examinations, you will be scheduled for a pre-employment oral interview with a panel of Boston EMS staff. The interview process may include scenario-based questions.

After successfully completing the Written, Practical exams and the Interview, Boston EMS will establish a list of candidates who will continue in the pre-employment screening process for the next scheduled recruit training academy class.

Employment with Boston EMSis contingent upon successful completion of all aspects of the pre employment screening process, including the medical/physical examination, drug/alcohol screening, background investigation, and Criminal Offense Records Investigation (CORI). Boston residency is required no later than six (6) months after your date of hire as a Boston EMS Recruit. Full time probationary employment is designed to allow selected EMT Recruits the opportunity to work and learn with Academy Instructors and Field Training Officers at Boston EMS. EMT Recruits will work 40 hours a week on varied shifts and schedules.
